Orobie Basecamp

Why the mountains

Why walking produces better conversations.

This is not a page about views. It is the reason we do not rent a meeting room. Moving changes how people think, talk and decide, and that is the only argument we need.

Side by side instead of face to face

At a table you sit across from someone, with a sheet of paper between you and a pecking order around it. On a trail you look in the same direction. Eye contact becomes optional, which makes difficult things easier to say. A silence is then simply a silence and not an incident.

Pace does something to thinking

Walking is fast enough to stay awake and slow enough to think. There is no next agenda item and no screen. After an hour people are not more inspired, they are more honest, and that is what moves a conversation forward.

Stepping back is not postponing

Leaving your desk looks like lost time until you notice how much of your thinking is stuck to that place. Physical distance makes it easier to look at a choice without the habits that hold it back. Growth starts more often with slowing down than with one more meeting.

And why the Orobie Alps

Because three days without being able to go back to the office is something else than a day outside. Base in Spiazzi di Gromo in the Alta Val Seriana, everything through local businesses in the valley. No resort, but a village where you return to the same people.

Why walking produces better conversations.

Three days without a phone sounded like a luxury. It turned out to be the only way to finally think about where the business had to go.

Frequently asked questions

Short and concrete.

So is this a walking holiday?
No. Every day there is a question, a facilitator and a result. The landscape is the workplace, not the programme.
How much do we walk per day?
In Belgium two to five hours, depending on a half or full day. In Italy four to six hours a day, at a pace the group can handle.
And if it rains?
Then we walk. In a thunderstorm we shift the route or continue indoors. We do not promise your walking shoes come back clean.
Does this work for people who do not like walking
Usually yes, because it is not about the walk. If you can walk for an hour you can join, and climbing experience is never needed.

So. What do you want to change?

We always start with a thirty-minute call: your question, the right format, the right length. After that you'll know whether this fits.
