How to get here, what each season means and how arrival works. Short and to the point.
Getting here
By car
From Belgium about nine hours via Basel and the Gotthard, or ten hours via France. The last fifteen kilometres is a mountain road — take it easy.
By plane
Milan Bergamo (Orio al Serio) is just over an hour's drive away. A rental car is essential here.
On the ground
Gromo for the baker, butcher and bar. Clusone for the bigger shops. A car remains handy, even though much starts right from the door.
The seasons
Spring
Waterfall season, short walks, empty villages. Snow still lingers above 1,600 metres.
Summer
All rifugi open, early starts, cool evenings. The best season for long days.
Autumn
Larches turn gold, chestnuts and polenta, the finest skies of the year.
Winter
Snowshoe walks, short days, a village gone quiet. Winter tyres required.
What to bring
- Hiking boots with grip — the paths are stony
- Rain jacket, even in August
- A warm layer for the evening, even in summer
- Water bottle: springs along the route are drinkable
- Cash for the smallest rifugi
Arrival and keys
Arrival from 4pm, departure before 10am. We'll arrange to meet in the village, or leave the key in the lockbox — you'll get the code the day before you arrive.
On arrival, we leave a short note with the three best walks that week, and which rifugi are open.
